Description
From Chapter 27, “Lust,” of It’s Impossible by J H McIntosh — Act I: Love Awakens.
Often those around us misjudge what they see, projecting onto our behavior what might be their motivation. They can be wrong. Not all love is measured by possession, but by its unwavering clarity and respect. It gently challenges common assumptions about desire, offering a vision of love that is patient, selfless, and steadfast even when miss characterized by those on the sidelines watching with judgemental eyes. Listening to it encourages reflection on how deep affection can exist without conditions or claims, inspiring hope that true love honors freedom and remains pure, no matter the world’s judgments.
Lyrics
They called me in to weigh my soul,
Accused me of losing control.
I took the chair, I told no lies,
About a love that never dies.
You say you’ve had that look before,
In me too it must be lust, therefore.
You read my heart through your own eyes,
Hearing truth from me fails to satisfy.
I don’t need touch to make this real,
I don’t need proof of how I feel,
I love her free, I love her whole,
Make no claim on her heart or soul.
Call it strange, call it wrong,
Say this love won’t last long.
But I know what my heart can do,
I love her clear, I love her true.
She walks with weight, eyes don’t see,
That’s the ache that bends in me.
If I could lift all of her pain,
I’d shoulder all and ask no gain.
I don’t confuse desire with care,
I don’t demand she meet me there.
Her joy comes first, her peace above,
There’s but one name for it – love.
If all I ever hear is silence,
I’ll still love her in defiance
I’ll kneel to pray the Lord above,
For gifting me this kind of love.
They seek a sin I cannot give,
A motive within that does not live.
I’d sooner take the blows of a thousand fights,
Then lessen her with unwanted sights.
I’ll wait a lifetime, ask no sign,
No ring, no vow, no claim as mine.
If she walks on and never stays,
I’ll love her still through all my days.
I didn’t come to be believed,
Or sell a truth the world can’t read.
God knows the difference, that’s enough,
Between pure love and lesser stuff.
I may not know this love’s name,
But I know it isn’t “lust”.
