Description

From Chapter 63, “Hiding,” of It’s Impossible by J H McIntosh — Act III: Trust and Letting Go.

When Aaron asks: "But where do you go when you go away?" He is describing something Belle does when they have been talking and laughter together for an extended period. Belle suddenly disappears. She is standing right there "physically" but somehow she is not there. It's like her whole body has shut down. This song is gently asking her "Why," "Where do you go." Aaron finds it very perplexing. He is not demanding an explanation he's just hoping if it is something he does she will tell him so he can refrain from doing it. This song encourages a thoughtful pause, respects the unique light someone brings into our lives.

Lyrics

We were laughing, losing track of time,
Something rare, something warm, something kind.

It was the best time, at least for me,
Two hours gone like time was always free.
You were open… real… completely you,
That’s the one I’ll love, forever true.

But where do you go when you go away?
Where do you hide when you no longer stay?
One breath we’re in it, the next you’re gone,
Like something sacred moved you along.

You light the room with such a joyous sound,
My feet lift up, no longer touching ground.
That’s you alive; that’s you complete,
Giving freely… asking no receipt.

But where do you go when you go away?
Where do you hide when you no longer stay?
One breath we’re in it, the next you’re gone,
Like something sacred moved you along.

You were just here, but you’re gone now,
Your eyes are quiet, I don’t know how.
It happens fast, no warning sign,
Like you stepped outside of our time.

You’re gone, gone, I know not where,
One second with me, the next not there.

I wonder if it happens with someone else,
Or only when it’s just yourself.
Do they feel it when you slip from view,
Or is it only felt by those who love you?

I don’t reach, I don’t pull you near,
Though it’s sad when you disappear.

But where do you go when you go away?
Where do you hide when you no longer stay?
One breath we’re in it, the next you’re gone,
Like something sacred moved you along.

You don’t owe an explanation to me,
I accept the part you let me see.
If openness is where you choose to live,
Just give me that look you alone can give.

Where do you go…
When you go away?
