Description
From Chapter 55, “Not Knowing,” of It’s Impossible by J H McIntosh — Act II: Soul to Soul.
This song let's us know Aaron has actually been holding back the depth of his love. When he tells Belle "If being with me was the best for you, I’d fight for you, with no thought of rest." It gives us a hint as to why he hasn't tried harder to win her love. The age difference makes him question if being with him would be best for Belle. Meanwhile he has resigned himself to not "take her" in spite of how deeply his heart cries to hold her. Time invites us to sit quietly with the gentle strength of a love that waits without demand, a love that understands the deepest patience and grace, knowing the truest gift is to let go without losing hope.
Lyrics
It’s better you don’t know how deep this runs,
Some truths would make surrender come undone.
I hid the fire, I dimmed the flame,
Not out of fear, not out of shame.
If you could see what I restrain,
You’d feel the pull, and that’s my pain.
’Cause love like this won’t force your hand,
It waits, it yields, it quietly stands.
If staying back is what love does,
Then I’ll stand aside… because.
Time stands between what I wish was real,
And what you alone must arrive to feel.
If with me was for you the very best,
I’d fight for you, with no thought of rest.
Still loving you has changed my life,
Washed away all the senseless strife.
A joy that lives beyond what might be mine.
Even not returned, this love’s right on time.
I see us where the quiet grows,
A table… laughter, forest roads.
Your hand in mine, a joyful dance,
A stolen dream, an endless romance.
That vision walks with me all my days,
Time cannot steal, love that doesn’t fade
So if I stand outside your door,
It’s not because I love you less.
It’s ’cause real love offers more,
To bless, not claim, to bear, not press.
Love doesn’t beg or stake its claim,
It bears the loss, it takes the pain.
If happiness means letting go,
I accept… you, I shall not know.
I give this love to God tonight,
As it was given by His light.
May it warm you when days are cold,
Be strength on which you can hold.
And if this love but lives in me,
Unfruitful still like a barren tree,
I’ll carry it… not bitter, scarred, or bent,
Because this love arrived right on time.
